Die Fortbildung findet in zwei Blöcken statt.

Errors are unavoidable when learning a new language. They are actually clear evidence of the fact that learners are actively experimenting with the language and trying to assimilate and integrate the new structures into their own pre-existing knowledge. The seminar deals with the phenomenon of errors: What are the typical errors that learners make in English and where do these come from? What role does the cultural background of the learners play? And how do (culturally influenced) errors affect communication - with native as well as non-native speakers? This point is important, because English is increasingly becoming the lingua franca and the language of communication among people with different L1s, people who don’t speak English as their first language.
However, we won’t stop at error analysis. After this glimpse "behind the scenes", we will look at how to deal with errors as well as error correction, including a focus on intercultural aspects. The aim is to work on developing practical solutions for the classroom.
